Volcanic cuisine in Aotearoa, New Zealand
Living with the volcanoes of New Zealand, and cooking them too.
New Zealand chefs Karena and Kasey Bird will find inspiration in their Maori culture to produce recipes representing two of their ancestors, Te Hoata and Te Pupu, guardian sisters of geothermal activity. The New Zealand sisters, who won the local Masterchef competition in 2014, will be talking about the importance of geothermal energy among the indigenous communities of Aotearoa and how it is used in both traditional and modern cuisine.
A talk to gain an insight into how they live with fire, also gastronomically speaking, on the other side of the world.
